Seasoned vet'ran of '43
Had to pay an entry fee
Gathered in the moonlight
At a quarter to midnight
For another tour at sea
Inside that dreadful machine

Strewn so far apart
On the bottom of that rolling sea
By the end of 1944
Many wrecks lay on the sea floor

All the guages were broken
By tremendous explosions
